Unhappy Vet confused - the pain has moved?

Hi, Im saddened that this has to be my first time in searching on the internet for doggy advise however my Vet doesn't really know whats happening.

My 1 yr old cavapoo has been ill for about 7 days. On the 1st day he was really still, lethargic, quiet and refused to eat or drink. Was really worried as he seems to have that 'ill' smell to him. He has been able to jump up or down. Took him to the vets and he had blood tests taken and was taken in for the day to be placed on drip. He had high white blood cell count which revealed to be fighting inflammation.

The vet then spent over an hour with him testing his walking and movement. Vets have given him painkillers and antibiotics and he started to recover over the weekend but seems to be worse this morning and hasn't eaten much today. We are not letting him run, jump or walk up stairs and are only walking a few mins with him so he can go the toilet. This is the only time his tail starts to wag again.

We have taken him to the vets again who has looked at him again, and he believes the pain has moved from the back of his legs further up his legs and has booked him in again for an xray on Friday (the earliest we could get). he has sent him back home with more pain killers and antibiotics but was honest and said he didnt really know what what the issue was.

Has anyone had any similar issues? Im terrified that he will be in pain #(or come home to find something worse) etc while im working.

What were the rest of his blood work results and did he already have an initial set of xrays?

Thank you for the reply. They took an initial blood test in the surgery and everything came back fine, they sent the rest of the sample off for more testing and the vet said everything came back normal part from a slightly high white blood count (he named something found within the white cells - which he said was fighting inflammation). All tests came back normal from the vet when we registered him as a puppy so vet said there was no need for an x-ray. Friday will be the first time he has had an x-ray as the vet wanted to use it to rule things out as he find anything when he examination him (He spent well over an hour feeling him and watching him walk etc). He has eaten some ham, chicken and a couple of his doggy biscuits today and drank the full bowl of water but dont think he has been that active while I have been at work. he is slowly following me about the house and giving little barks when someone walks past house. Just seems so strange that the pain seems to have moved from his leg up the body??

If the bloodwork is showing nothing out of the ordinary, IMO, (I am not a Vet) a full body Xray would be next, to rule in or out spinal and or nerve issues. Has he had any inoculations or medication, that he could possibly be reacting to? If your Vet still comes up with nothing, its probably time to get him to a specialist, maybe start with an internist. Obviously something is going on with him, just going to take the right Vet to discover what!

I am a bit confused. In your initial information you said that he was not in pain but later on you talk about pain and it moving from the rear legs to the back. Did he have a fever? Most young dogs that have pain as the primary problem will usually have a favorable response to pain medications as the ones we now have do a very good job. Any other symptoms: vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, etc.?
