She did say hold off on the cranberry supplement thing until the test comes back. They will send off to the lab for regular dipstick, and if that is abnormal, then they will send for the C&S, so maybe it won't end up costing me much anyway. If the test is abnormal, she said we may try the cranberry at that time.

I have a bunch of samples of food that companies sent me. I'm wondering if I should see which he likes best, or just buy one big bag of something and use it. The samples are just half pounds of food of different flavors, so I didnt know if testing him on just one meal with each one would mess him up too much or not. Usually he has no issues changing food at all. Or maybe to not waste the food I could just mix it in with another kind? That may be confusing. I just hate to waste the samples Ive been sent if he PREFERS another kind, but would eat the samples anyway.
What brand and flavors did the companies give you? that sounds a good plan tbh though even if she doesnt give the go ahead with cranberry supplement id still use it anyway as its good for urinary tract and bladder and no harm will come with it. she sending it to lab for urine dipstick test/?!! my vet does that right there and then when i bring a sample in. only sends to lab for investigation

HAHA Sorry I wasn't more clear on this. Yes, she is sending to lab for dipstick. They have done it there twice and said she will have it tested just to be sure their equipment isnt to blame. They would do the dipstick in house like they had been the last two times, but she said if its a problem with their equipment that may be why the pH and stuff is off (since he has no other symptoms). So if it comes back clear from the lab, then they wont need to do the $150 C&S. However, if all theyre doing is a dipstick test, couldnt I just buy some of the test strips myself and if THEN it is still off the charts, have the vet office do it? The strips I found are only $10. I mean, it would save me money and time from having to take him and have them get the sample directly from his bladder. The strips I looked at tested pH, nitrites, and white blood cells.

Does that make more sense?

Also on the food, I'll have to check it all when I get home. I dont remember everything they sent lol. Its like 6 bags of half pound flavors. I'll try to post back later this evening.

I was wondering about that. I didn't think it was harmful. She said he didn't need it if the pH had cleared, but I didtn think there would be any harm in it...it's only got stuff that I've read is good for him (or safe) anyway

Update

Ok, so funny story:

Took him Monday for the sterile sample and they mailed it off. I found out this morning that it SPILLED in the mail Don't know when I will be able to take off work to get him back in for a morning sample, but she seemed to think it was ok to wait a couple of weeks until I could.

So here's my plan. I'm gonna buy the at home PH test strips, that also test wbc and nitrites, so if THAT test comes back abnormal, at that time, I will schedule to take him back in for another urine sample to be mailed off.

This sample was going for a routine dipstick test at the lab, and if it was abnormal, they would do the C&S with it. So I would think I could save myself some money and do the dipstick at home, taking him for C&S if necessary. And use the money that I already paid for the test to go toward the C&S

Anyway, he's now on the cranberry powder and some fish oil, so hopefully anything that may be an issue with bladder will clear up with that. Everything else looks and sounds good (heart, etc) when we went for the checkup. Fecal was negative, he's up to date on shots.

Just wanted to give everyone an update

Just wanted to update: I bought urine test strips and will be testing his urine for the next few days to decide if I need to take him for the C&S. So far, pH seems back to normal, and don't seem to have any leukocytes. No blood, all the levels seem to be in the normal range for a canine (I did differentiate between canine and human). Protein was detected in the tests however. 30 (.3) each time. Will continue to keep eye on him and take him in if need be. Thanks everyone for the help you've given me!
