Suprelorin implant -opinions?

Hi,
I don't suppose any owners have given their dog the male implant?

Basically we have an 18 month old spaniel who is intact, I was going to have him neutered when he was ready however he can be a timid dog at times (hand shy, will bark if people crouch to talk to him) so we were advised not to as the testosterone would give him courage kind of thing.

Now he's 18months old and he's had his first experience of a female in heat which was a bit stressful but we also live in an area with a lot of unneutered male dogs which is causing dominance issues at times.

Because of all this we though the implant might be a good idea incase he becomes extremely timid through neutering so this would be a sort of test run.

Has anyone had experience of it and how did the dog react?
I've looked up so many websites but they seem to have wide and varied views on the matter.

Hi Michelle

My 3 year old JRT Nelson had the implant when he was 12 months old. The vet warned us he might go a bit loopy for a while but he didn't change at all. He didn't even react to them putting it in but the vets is one of his favourite people.

Only problem I had was that I had to pay for 2. As its not very common in my area the vets ordered it in and it and comes in packs of 2.

I won't have to pay for the implant to be replaced but am only letting my dogs have one litter then they're getting neutered, so it worked out quite expensive.

Hope that helps
