Seresto Dog Collars

I did a brief search through the threads and couldn't find a topic on this collar as a flea and tick preventative. They have been getting amazing reviews and I'm considering buying them. Ticks are rampant in my area. Has anyone had any negative experiences using this product?

One thing I worry about is the vast differences in price from different carriers.. $70 from PetCo, $55 from PetSmart, $50 from Walmart, and even cheaper, about 40 something on Amazon... why??

Any info is appreciated.

Lastly, I did read that if your dog swims a lot it reduces its longevity. Do you think I can just take it off while my dog swims and put it back on afterwards? Only thing is they swim in the pond so I'm concerned about flea/ticks while swimming...thoughts?

Thanks as always!!

This is my second year using the Seresto collar. Thus far, they have been zero negative effects and they seem to work really well for both fleas and ticks. I like that's it's a slow continuous release as opposed to the drop treatments.

I do take them off for swimming and baths, because I feel it preserves the collar. I don't think the dogs instantly lose protection when you take the collar off, because the way the collar works, the chemicals become mixed with your dogs body oil and distributed throughout the fur and skin.

I use seresto on the girls(it's our 2nd year with them) and so far love them. The first time I ordered it we had a terrible flea infestation. Ordered collars for 2 out of the 4 dogs plus 1 cat and litterally within a few weeks everyone was flea free. My dogs swim a lot and do dock diving. I generally remove them for dock diving, but they've worn them swimming multiple times and it still lasted the 8 months without an issue.

There have been cases of side effects, but thankfully we haven't had any issues though I do have a friend with a dog who had a severe negative reaction to the collars. Can't remember exactly what happened, but they couldn't figure out what was making him sick and eventually vet started to consider it was the collar and turned out it was.

This is what's making me have second thoughts. I switched to view all the one star reviews and so many people have similar cases of their dog suddenly developing seizures and extreme lethargy... I wouldn't want to put them through that, I wish we knew what type of dog would have the adverse effects

I work for a vet and out of the hundreds of collars we have sold only one cat had a reaction which was hairloss around his neck.

Do you recommend them over K9 Advantix II?

I work at a kennel and a lot of our dogs come in with them too with no reactions. I just am over cautious I guess, how do you decide to take that risk with your pet's health... *shrug*

Time is ticking and I need to decide to try Seresto or continue with K9 Advantix II. Only thing is we still get a lot of ticks with the advantix, maybe cause of the frequent swimming...

I think her dog suddenly just got really letahrgic don't believe he had any seizures, but still scarey how quickly he came down with it. Though he was fine a couple days after they removed the collar. And out of her 4 dogs only the GSP had a reaction. Her other three still use them with no issue.

We have never carried Advantix II at the vet practice where I work. The reason being that many of our clients also have cats and Advantix II is not safe around cats. So I have no experience with that product.

I got one for my dog after hearing all the great things, but unfortunately he had a negative allergic reaction to the collar and had to take it off. His ears flared up almost like an infection, he started to have small spots of hair fall out on his face, and he began to act very erratic and weird. A few days after removing the collar, all symptoms went away. He has since been switched to NexGard and is doing quite well. A little pricier, but it's the best option for him.
