hey everyone, in around 2008 my moms client was going through some things in life and couldnt take care of her dog. around 2 years prior we had our 11 year old dog pass away and we offered to take her in because we thought it was time for a new addition to the family ;) im not sure if all this roots back to her puppy years but as a puppy she grew very close to my mother, whenever my mother would leave she would end up sleeping on the couch and kind of acting very inresponsive and just unenergetic, as shes grown older she has just gotten worse and i am kind of clueless on where to go about this, whenever my mom actually does get home she is the happiest dog in the world but the second my mom leaves the house she goes into brick mode, it really concerns me and i recently found out there are some medications your dog could start taking to help aid them through this but im a bit skeptical and u educated. im really lost and need some input from people who are educated on the subject, thank you for your time - bailey <3

Is the dog all alone when your mother leaves or are there other people/pets there with the dog? You could try to leave an article of clothing with your mother's scent on it for the dog to cuddle with and leave the television/radio on so there is some ambient noise.

I'm with my dogs most of the time, but my daughter's dog used to have the worst time when she would leave him. He would bark at the door for the longest time. One day on a hunch when she was leaving, I picked him up and showed him out the door and said "mommy is going bye, bye" and he was fine. He just had to see her leave. No barking at all. He still misses her and snaps to attention when he hears a noise, but he seems to understand that she'll be back.
