Sage does a "Thumper" kick?

My dog Sage has this wierd habit of kicking one back leg really hard, kind of like a rabbit. She usually does it when she's laying down but occasionally when shes standing up. I've never seen a dog do this before. Usually right after she kicks she usually looks back at her leg like, "What was that for?". It's not always the same leg, but always one of her back legs. She never limps or anything. Does this sound like a problem or just a wierd quirk? Any opinions greatly appreciated!

Have you had her knees checked? This sounds a lot like the kicks that dogs do when their patellas pop in and out.

What kind of dog is she? Luxating patellas are more common in small breeds, but they can occur with any type of dog. Often a little hop or kick is the only symptom. Your vet can tell you how bad it is, and recommend a good joint support supplement to try to reduce the risk of developing arthritis.

This was my first thought too. Wouldn't hurt to have a vet check it out.

She is a mix, medium size. When we got her they said she was supposed to be Golden Retriever x Bernese but we don't think that's true; she's too small for that mix. I have never heard of that, but I will take her in when we can to have the vet take a look.
