We got a new puppy, she is a four-month-old lhasa apso. Very sweet and healthy. Unfortunately, my kids were playing with her and *something* happened to her back leg. I have a two-year-old who could have stepped or fallen on her, but no one can pinpoint what exactly happened. She would not put any weight on it or walk at all, and I took her right to the vet.
The vet did a physical exam and said there was some type of injury to the ankle or foot, but that nothing obvious stood out to him. Her hip and back seem fine, and there is no swelling, redness, or signs of an obvious fracture.
She seems happy and is eating and drinking fine. I have her on 25 mg of rimadyl a day. She still will barely put any weight on her leg, and when she does, she limps. She does not want to walk much at all, except when absolutely necessary and seems quiet. She is resting a lot.
I feel AWFUL. Obviously whatever happened was an accident (they adore her and would never harm her intentionally), but I am super upset and so are the kids. My vet said to wait a week and come back if things are not significantly improved. I am afraid she will never get better and will lose her little leg. Advice? Thoughts? Yes, obviously I need to supervise better when the kids play with her.
