Exclamation Please help! uncontrollable shake/shiver

My dogs ran away yesterday and we finally caught them today. The younger dog is very happy and healthy. My dog (Wally) is acting very funny. He is very mopey and when we brought him in he was shaking (at first we thought it was because it was a bit chilly today) and they both got baths. Well he is still shaking and he feels hot to the touch. I wrapped him in a blanket and he is curled up next to me. I dont want to take him to the vet yet (mainly because we live in country and there isnt one very near or cheap) so I'm trying to find some answers. Could he be simply cold? Thanks so much for reading this.

Not knowing what he might have gotten into while he was lost your best bet is taking him to the vet. It sounds like he has a fever but that's a symptom and there's no telling what is causing it, and there's also no telling if the fever will be all that he has happen or if it's the tip of the iceberg so to speak.

Thanks! He has however stopped shaking and is now snoring loudly beside me. I think I kinda maybe possibly over-reacted...? He's my baby and I got super scared. If he doesn't get any better by tomorrow though I plan on taking him straight to the vet! Thanks!!

I'm so glad that he's doing better! It could have been due to being scared / anxious from being lost. Have you checked his temp? Normal temp should be between 101 and 102.5 f , if he's not running one then he's probably fine since he has no other symptoms.

Ok so mom is refusing to let me use the thermometer in his bum... My grandma told me I could give him half an asprin pill to help with the fever. I did and he's getting all sweaty now and she told me its because the fever is breaking. Also he has a new-found rash on his belly. It's redish and doesnt seem to be bumpy or painful to him. The other dog also has a small rash too but he is allergic to fleas so we know why he has one. Oh and Wally threw up earlier on the porch and my grandma reminded me that he has been having trouble holding his bladder and bowel movements since christmas. I didn't even think of this being a factor to the fever...

Dogs don't sweat. And without taking his temp it's hard to say if he has a fever. Luckily asprin is safe for dogs but you need to make sure you give the correct dose. I would be worried about poisoning of some kind. With him getting out and you not knowing what he got into.

I just ran to the store and got a new thermometer (thanks mom!) and his temp now is 102.6 so It's fairly normal I guess. Probably because of the Asprin but thanks and I know I think if he gets another fever by tomorrow he is definitely going to the vet.
