And because I'm nuts, some more pics. They're kind of blurry. Not easy to get on a very active puppy!

There is another forum that specializes in labrador retrievers that has a "sticky" on recessed vulvas and suggested treatments. If you can't find it via googe, pm me.

Thank you! I'll check it out.

Well, the urinalysis/culture came back as totally normal. No bacteria, crystals, blood, WBCs, etc. Nothing alarming in terms of the other potential findings (I think she mentioned things like protein and sugar, but I can't remember exactly). So that's good, I guess.

She did see pus, as I have, on the vulva. She suspects mild vaginitis. Ellie has not bee licking it much, if at all. The vulva and area around it didn't appear red or inflamed. She said it's possible that a mild vaginitis could be making Ellie feel the urge to pee a bit more. She gave me Nolvasan to use in a twice daily wash of the area.

She suspects that it's also possible that Ellie is learning to pee often and therefore isn't fully voiding. Not that she's relying on that, but it's possible. She wants me to use the crate more, as I confess I hate doing it as she cries in it while awake. I will use lots of stuffed kongs, which she likes. If I freeze them, it takes her at least 1/2 hour to get through it, so that should buy us some time. And, frankly, I need that. I need to be able to get things done around the house, give the kids dinner, help with homework, make lunches for school, etc. It's been impossible with me tied to Ellie non-stop and constantly taking her outside. She also wants me to stay in her outside "pee area" longer to make sure she totally voids before we walk around outside playing. She asked if Ellie is easily distracted. Um, yeah! Blowing leaf. Bird. Rock. You name it.

As far as a hooded vulva, she checked from a lot of angles. Said it was mostly sticking out, but there is a slight fat pad behind it. She said that it was too soon to see if it was going to be an issue and that she could grow into that little pd. She swore she's seen a million recessed vulvas, and that while this one did have that little pad, it's nothing like the problematic ones she's seen. But we'll watch it and keep it clean.

I kind of wanted an ultrasound, but she really doesn't think it's a kidney issue. Ellie is such a crazy, hyper puppy with a zest for life and uber-appetite. She does enjoy drinking but isn't at her water bowl all the time. She said the signs just aren't there yet, especially given the vaginitis which could explain some of this, and that kidney issues are super rare in puppies this age, especially mixed breeds. The vet who did the bladder ultrasound to guide the needles didn't see any stones there. Still kind of wished she'd checked out the kidneys then. Dang.

She doesn't suspect ectopic ureter, because Ellie doesn't leak at all. Not one bit. Ellie and her crate are bone dry whenever Ellie sleeps in there, or in the rare times I'm able to get her to hang out in there. She doesn't leak when hanging out playing tug or chewing on toys while on the couch with us. Doesn't leak while running. When she pees, she squats and goes.

So I'm not 100% sure we're in the clear. We'll give it a week and if no improvement evaluate further.

When my Doberman female was about the same age, I noticed a little discharge so I took her into the Vet to have her urine checked. They gave me a cup and I went out on the grass and got a fresh sample that way. When I mentioned the discharge, the Vet just dismissed it with it is probably just a little vaginal discharge. The sample did show Struvite crystals which unless they have a UTI are not treated. Never saw the discharge again and she has been fine.

No but she had three this year and seems to lick it quite a bit so id like to be able to see whats going on, i think its cos her glands are bothering her but it doesnt help me see if there is anything wrong and id prefer to be able to see it just incase in the future it isnt her glands but her vagina causing bother or not
