Paw tumors

I am not really looking for advice just need a place to compose my feelings. My beautiful Gizmo is a 16 year old Shih Tzu. When she was 2 she had an accident that left her without the use of her front right paw. She adjusted well and has always been a good dog. Last year she developed a mass on her back left paw. After many trips to the vet and the surgeon the mass was removed. She healed pretty quick and was back to her old self. This past June I noticed the mass returning. After two months it was time to see the surgeon again. He said it was different from last year and probably just needed to be drained. Because of her age he only wanted to keep her under anesthesia for no more than ten minutes. Soon after starting surgery he called me and said it was worse than he thought. It was a very large tumor. I gave permission to remove it., it took almost an hour to remove it. Well she is now temporarily down to two legs and it is heart breaking watching her try to walk. I actually thought she was doing better (the surgery was last Friday) but after her visit to the surgeon last night (he said she was healing remarkably fast) she seemed worse this morning. I don't know if it was because of all the adrenaline of being at the surgeons again. She was running around like she had all four legs again. But this morning she can barely stand. I am hoping by the time I get back home from work she will be feeling better. I hate seeing her in so much pain and I am almost sorry I agreed to the surgery. But the only other choice was to put her down and other than the mass she is doing fine for 16. Thank you for listening just needed to try to get myself together before I leave to go home. I am always scared as to what I will find.

It is heartbreaking when our pets age and get ill. My best to you and Gizmo.
