Soz ladies fell asleep. That's 30c for the room temp near the whelping box as if I turn the central heating down by even 5 the puppies start speaking and huddling together after about 20 mins as roxy's not a very warm dog. I have ordered a snugglesafe pad that you put in the microwave which I can pick up at lunchtime so I can turn the heating off.
Roxy did very well last night. I woke to squealing and she had a puppy stuck but she was trying to work out which puppy needed help and then just stood up and moved to the other side of the pups.
I also have a bit of a problem when it comes to my husband - he has named 1 of the pups and there are hints every now and then like "but roxy might get upset if you take all her babies" or "but you were on about getting a puppy" ?

I could do with some advice regarding weight gain for the pups ie what is acceptable growth I've looked online and it says something about 10% gain but I can work it out. I know they should near enough double their birth weight by 7 days but surely problems with gain will be before this?

If you're worried about there being one last remaining pup, she should probably go into the vet. It's not normal for them to have a pup 24 hour after the last was delivered. If there's one there, it's probably deceased, and she will need to have it surgically removed before it makes her sick

They can do an x ray to confirm real quick whether there's a pup left or not.

As for pup gain, I honestly couldn't tell you. But it's always pretty clear when one isn't doing well. They don't look plump and fat like the rest. They do start to look skinny and sad and they're not as robust or good with eating. As long as everybody is eating good, strong, wiggling around, and gaining weight period, then I would be thrilled!

The vet said he didn't need to see her based on her current condition but did give me a list of warning signs.
With the weight gain 5 of the pups have gained what I assume is a good amount with the first born gaining the most at 28g, but with the other 2 I'm not sure 1 has gained only 2g and the other has actually lost 1g so I'm making sure they are nursing and not being pushed out etc. I just wasn't sure what was a good amount really.
I've also started roxy on the calcium supplements this morning like LoveMyFosters suggested and already she's seems less miserable and has started to lie down of her own accord also when she goes toilet she is now waiting anxiously to get back to the pups rather than trying to go get on the sofa.
crazy likes this.

I agree with TiggerBounce, it's quite obvious when a pup isn't doing well, they will not look fat as they should, won't move as much as the others, etc. I have never weighed any of my pups and I have never lost a single pup from any litter. Just like with whelping, it's mostly common sense and being observant.

So glad the calcium worked! Is she still laying on them?

Stressful day today. I was looking into changing roxy's microchip details and realised I needed proof she was now my dog so I phoned the bloke I got her off and he phoned the original owners. Well all day the original owners have been txting and ringing the bloke saying they want her back and now are on their way to my town to collect her and if I don't tell them my address they are phoning the police.
I don't know what to do. I'm not worried about the police as they don't know my name or address just the town I live in but how do I get the chip changed? If she ever gets lost then she'll get sent straight back to the original owners who let her get pregnant in the first place.

It's a really long story.
Owner 1 got her as a young puppy. They decided to get rid of her "because she destroyed a xmas present and pulled down the xmas tree" (complete bull in my opinion as she took no notice of my tree that was still up when she came to me) and gave her to friends then gave her to owner 2 (I don't know if cash was exchanged) and gave owner 2 proof of vaccinations
Owner 2 had her for 3 days and was walking past my house when she got hurt (stepped on some broken glass from nextdoor) i asked if they needed help as they had no control over her at all. They then told me that their landlord said they couldn't have dogs and did we want her. They gave her to me and then popped round her crate and the proof of vaccinations and left.
Personally I think they knew the possibility of her being pregnant and now the whelping over they want the profit of the pups otherwise why wait until now? They could have text/phoned at any point in the last 6 weeks but they didnt

Are you sure she's chipped? Did they give you the micro chip papers? I got my dog when he was a year old from a friend and the chip's company charges to change ownership of the dog. Well considering they also have a fee to keep the dog registered that kinda ticked me off. So I went to the site with the info I had and simply changed the phone number and address that was on file to my own and left my friend's name as the owner. Doing that might be an option if you have the micro chip papers.

If they are out actively looking for her what you do not want to do is take her out where they may spot her. There's also the possibility that Owner 2 will tell Owner 1 where you live considering that Owner 2 knows that.

Yes she's definitely chipped. No I haven't got any microchip papers but the chip number is written on the vaccination papers.
I don't think owner 2 would tell them my address as he's really angry with them when he found out she was pregnant.
I'm just worried cos she's not in my name and like I said if she gets lost I won't get her back
