Our dog Snoopy has recently had one of his whisker follicles - as well as the skin and fur around it - turn from white/pink to black. He does have a lot of spots etc in his white fur, but looking back at photos even as recent as 2 months ago, the spot was totally absent.

He did also have the whisker fall out of the follicle around the same time the change of colour happened - I know this because we first noticed the missing whisker, then the fact the skin around it was changing colour. We thought maybe he’d just injured the follicle and the dark colour was bruising/blood under the skin.

I probably sound like a total paranoid weirdo, but I know in humans that if you have a spot of skin that suddenly and rapidly changes colour/texture it can be melanoma (having said that I myself develop new freckles all the time and so while I keep an eye on them I don’t automatically panic). I’m curious if anyone else has had this happen and would also be concerned? Will probably take him to the vet regardless - it’s probably nothing but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

I’ve attached a photo showing his muzzle before and after the spot form. I should also note it doesn’t feel raised etc, but it didn’t even exist 2 months ago

You should have your Vet check it. We are all non-professionals that can only guess, as you can. Probability is high, its nothing, my guess says, but you should have your Vet check it so you know for sure.
