We did a consult with a neurologist, no scans.
Today we did a phone consult with a new vet just to get another opinion. The only other new thing he said to try is a new diet altogether, that he may be lacking B12 big time with his limited diet. It’s trickybthough with all his food allergies. It was hard but tonight we’re trying a new venison based food with all the supplements.
His gut feeling was a serious neurological issue that would just not be treatable, and I won’t mention his recommendation at this time...
Obviously I can’t make my friend live a miserable life out of selfishness, but I still see a will, he’s eating and drinking (with episodes), going #1 and #2, so we are still maintaining hope.
He’s only 3 years old for goodness sake.
And the most gentle dog I’ve ever seen...
I will keep updating as I can.

Update: pros and cons...
Cons: Didn’t wanna come out of kennel this morning, would only eat hand fed...
Pros: its day 2 without Apequel and being on the new diet. No signs of breaking out or excessive itching!
Pros: he greeted me at the door today! Immediately went outside did his business and strolled around the yard for 45 minutes. A little slower than normal, but not bad.
Pro and Con: He did poop a few extra times after I got home this afternoon. Could be the new food, or the fact that he now apparently likes to open cupboards and steal ALLOT of food to snack on while laying on the couch...
Trying my best to keep him on super light duty, no steps, no loud noises, no high big action...
Fingers still crossed...

What serious neurological issue? Are we talking tumor, or?????? Treatability can really only accurately be determined after a complete workup.

Wel we are on I believe day 4 without Apequel, no skin issues detected!!!!
No big episodes.
Eating perfectly, loves the new food!
I would say he’s been 85% his old self.
I’m really starting to hope those ear infections were just messing with him when he jumped or swelled maybe?!?!?
Anyways he’s staying on light duty, he will finish his course or antibiotics and the other new pill in a week or two, we’ll the. Reassess.
Fingers and toes crossed!

So he has only had a small handful of these “jolts” in the last few weeks. But he just still doesn’t seem to be his old self. Spends ALLOT of time in his kennel (his choice).
He will chew on toys but NO rowdy playing. Loud noises, excitement, or a burst of energy seems to bring it on, and sends him running for kennel...
Just weird!
