Is My Wheaten Terrier Dying?

I have a 14 year old Wheaten Terrier named Cosmo. This passed winter he developed cysts on his eyelids. Our Veterinarian treated them with medication but it didn't help. Cosmo was crying and not sleeping very well because the cornea was scratched. We took him back and it was recommended after a blood test that he was well enough for the cysts to be surgically removed. He came through the surgery and we brought him home with some eye drops and gel - no pain medication. He was uncomfortable that night whimpering and my heart was breaking for him. After a week or so his eye was still red, but it looked a little better until one night Cosmo woke me to go out to relieve himself and that's where the diarrhea began along with vomiting. He stopped eating and drinking and we brought him back to the Veterinarian. They hospitalized Cosmo for a couple of days and we then took him home. He appeared to be better until he started vomiting again. Not too bad - he brought up his dinner but still seemed okay. A couple of days later he ate a part of my rug and vomited. A few days after that the diarrhea and vomiting started all over again and once more he became dehydrated and had to be hospitalized for another three days. Is this the beginning of the end for my dog? My Vet says after all the tests that were performed on him that everything is normal with no real diagnosis. We switched his food to the Royal Canin wet which he likes but he doesn't seem to be drinking any water and just lays around all day. When I take him out for walks he stumbles and falls. I am heartbroken and feel if he didn't have the cysts on his eyelids his quality of life would have been better. I am so fearful of another episode of dehydration. Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Is there another vet around that can offer up a second set of eyes? I would personally, request a copy of all test results. Clearly something is wrong with your dog.

Yes, I have another Veterinarian for Cosmo in Pennsylvania. I will be taking him there on Saturday. I do have the copies of Cosmo's blood, sonogram etc. tests. Thanks jagger!

I see that many on this site read about my situation, but only "jagger" replied which I would like to say thank you jagger. I took My Cosmo to our Veterinarian in Pennsylvania and it didn't take her long to inform us that My Cosmo has a brain tumor exacerbated by the recent anesthesia given to him from his eye surgery. The Vet doesn't recommend that we see a neurologist because the testing will only involve more anesthesia and Cosmo is 14. I am devastated by this news. While I understand that My Cosmo's birthday is tomorrow and will be 14, my heart is breaking. We have some medication to try and keep him comfortable and not suffer any more vomiting or diarrhea for which I am truly grateful. I don't think I have to tell anyone here to hold onto your pets and love them with all your hearts. Thank you .... goodbye.

I am so sorry that the second opinion did not get you better news. I know you must be devastated.

Treasure the time you have left with Cosmos and spoil him as much as you can.
