New to the forum and new to being a dog guardian (I had a dog as a child/teen but never as an adult). We just rescued the sweetest German shepherd mix (40 pounds, they think lab mixed in-anywhere between 2 and 4 years old they said) from the local humane society. She is a delight and we are in love. I have a question I hope the group can help with!! I apologize ahead as it's a bit lengthy and I hope that's ok here!
When we got her, I thought her spay scar looked kind of shoddy and noticed there was a very small red bump at the top of the scar. I assumed it was just part of the scar and didn't think anything of it. I also though that area seemed like it had a little swelling, but then I thought I was nuts as she was behaving fine and nothing really seemed irregular. She went to the vet last week for what we discovered was an ear infection, and I asked the vet if the scar looked ok and she said yes.
Last night we went out for a walk/jog (she loves to run - I need to build up my cardio so I can keep up lol) and when we returned I was patting her belly (which she is obsessed with) and found a very noticeable lump at that same site. It seems kind of soft and she did not react when I touched it. This morning the lump seems a little larger, perhaps the size of a larger golfball. Again, she does not seem at all disturbed by it -if I run my hand over it she does not really respond. She is eating and drinking and she will lay on her belly, her side, etc and is playing normally. Essentially acting like her usual self.
I however am freaking out. Ironically, I have an appointment tomorrow in the early afternoon at the vet's office to get her dew claws trimmed (because i forgot when we were there for her ears)! - I am going to call them first thing in the morning to ask them for an appointment with the vet instead of with the vet tech. Last week they were very quick about getting us an appointment for the ear (she was scratching it like crazy) so I anticipate the same tomorrow.
In the meantime though - does anyone know what this could be? I have found hernias, abscesses and seroma's online, but I feel like I should stop googling because I don't think that's helping. If her behavior changes at all or if anything unusual happens we will definitely take her to the ER today... but I was wondering if anyone might have any thoughts. Thank you so much!!
