My dog won't eat

Been happening off and on for around a month and half. I have a springer spaniel and she is 5 years old. Always been on Iams dry food and eats every morning and evening. Very happy dog. Recently she has seemed to stop eating. I can sometimes get her to eat something new or something that is tempting to her but even now that seems to be sporadic. She also lays around alot and in different places then usual for her.

I took her to the vet and they did an xray and found no obstructions, they ran blood work and found nothing, kept her for a day and told me that they see nothing wrong with her and that it is probably that she will get an occasional table scrap and that is why she is not eating correctly.

This dog has never stopped eating in the past and we have always given her an occasional table scrap. I can even feel her backbone as she seems to be losing weight.

She has all shots, got the last few a couple weeks ago when she was at the vet.

Concerned. Thanks for help.

I also forgot to add that I can usually hear her stomach making noises like it is either hungry or trying to digest but she just lays around most of the day.

So she's now only occasionally willing to eat treats and food other then her kibble? If that's the case I'd get a second opinion from another vet because something is not right.

If she is happily accepting other food and just ignoring the kibble I'd say maybe your vet is correct and she is holding out for a table scrape, but considering that you say she's always gotten some table scraps I doubt it's the case. I'd still go get a second opinion just to be safe.

There is a difference between, won't eat anything, or has become a very picky eater! Ours just plain gets bored with the same food day in and day out, so she now eats only fresh, prepared, and I rotate every week, between lamb, turkey, beef and venison. Keeps her very interested in food. If yours won't eat anything, you probably need to get her to a specialist, probably an Internist.
