I'm sorry that she had a stroke, my old boy Shadow had one around a month before his 16th birthday, but am so glad that she's showing improvement already.

With Shadow the stroke left him very, very, dizzy and blind. While he could stand he had trouble walking because he was so dizzy, and also disoriented from being blind. The vet prescribed us medicine for the nausea, a steroid to bring down any swelling, and once finished the steroid had me give him baby aspirin. He told me what your vet told you, that dogs do usually recover well from strokes, he also said that most of what they recover they will do so the first month. The first couple days were the worse but after that he began to do better, the dizziness left, the head tilt got better, and he learned to adjust to his blindness. Accept for that blindness over the course of that month he recovered completely and went on to live nearly 2 more years. I hope your girl has a similar outcome and you see more improvement every day!

Here's a picture of my little old man, the date stamp on the picture is wrong it was taken right before Christmas in 2011, maybe a month after the stroke. He was definitely my Christmas present that year.

Thank you for sharing your experience. She seems to be doing quite a bit better. She tries to use her right rear leg when supported. She cant use it very well yet, but she tries. I am somewhat amazed at the improvement that happened quickly. Not only with her leg, but her spirit as well. I'm hoping and praying she regains full use of her leg. We'll just keep giving her love, encouragement, time and help.

Lets hope she continues to improve. Your continued support for her, is what keeps them going and trying. They are very responsive to our caring affection towards them.

I think you're right. All they want from us is unconditional love and companionship. Another quick update...I lifted her hind quarters to get her up and set her back down after a short distance. This was inside our house. Before I could pick her up again, she sat up and then jumped up on all fours. She then kind of bunny hopped a couple of steps before she couldn't go any farther. She still cant go far and put much weight on her right rear, but I was ecstatic. Also her paw doesn't drag on that leg like it was. Feeling pretty optimistic.

My dog Buttons had a stroke that affected his brain. He never recognized us after. That was so heartbreaking. We had to put him down, his mind was so gone he knew nothing. I am so glad your dog is getting better. Every day is probably a new experience for her.

Good to know she's getting well I pray that it will work continously and hopefully she will be fully recovered. God bless!

Mcdaramont, I'm sorry about your dog. It's awful to have a pet euthanized even when it's the right thing to do.
