My dog ate a nail or something and was eating grass like crazy!

My mom has been working around the house a lot lately, and I guess a nail or something metal was lying on the ground. I was working in the kitchen, and I heard a metal clink that sounded like a nail falling on the ground. But then Molly started making vomiting motions and I brought her out so she didn't puke on the floor and she started eating grass like crazy. I don't know what to do. Please help. I don't think she's thrown up at all, as I didn't see any. But if she did eat a nail, then what should I do? Is this an emergency or can I let her just puke sometime. Also, about the grass, should I let her keep eating it, or should I keep her inside. She's lying by my chair right now indoors.

If you suspect she swallowed a nail then it's an emergency. Do not make her vomit as this can cause damage coming up. They will do an x-ray to confirm that there is a nail and go from there!

You need to take your dog to a vet. Even if Molly's "passes" then nail, it may end up tearing her intestines. This is serious. Take care.

Well, right now, the best I can do is call my vet. But because Molly has eaten so many things before (sandpaper, socks, etc.) and been fine for the most part, my mom is very unconcerned. It's driving me crazy! Always has. She says it'll be fine. I don't know about that...

My sister works Tuesday to Friday till 2:30 and doesn't get home until around 3:10-ish. We only have two cars and my dad takes his to work and doesn't get home till 4:20-ish.

Lots of obstacles and I don't know what to do.

A nail is different than a sock. This could potentially be a life threatening emergency, she needs to be seen by a Vet.

I decided not to post my first reply after I noticed the timestamp.

Hippophile might be a child and Molly might have already crossed the rainbow bridge. If so, I'm sure she feels bad enough about it but children don't (necessarily) have credit cards, savings, cab fare, or the ability to tap on the app and do whatever people do to summon Uber and Lyft.

I hope I am way, way off base and that Hippophile will update us, but she certainly doesn't owe us anything. Hopefully the vet was able to call the cab/ambulance/Uber/Lyft if Hippophile couldn't but I don't have any kids so I have no idea if that would even be legal.

I do hope Molly is OK !!!
Perhaps it wasn't even a nail, and perhaps whatever it was passed without problems. I am very worried though!

Dogs are like babies, they do explore their world through their mouths, and they don't understand the dangers of things. It's a reminder to us all to keep the environment of our pets safe.

I've been bringing bully sticks and pig ears hiking with me so the pups have something to chew on when we rest. Chihuahuas can die from intestinal blockages if you let them chew on sticks.

"Drop it" and "Leave it" are survival skills for all dogs and I prioritize them over "down", "stay", and in Laurel's case, even "sit".

Hopefully it was just a scary clink and a distracted mom, however old the mom may be and whatever Hippophile's personal life and living situation looks like afk.

Well, I couldn't get to the vet, but she seems fine. It happened days ago, and I went camping for a couple days, but left Molly home with some other members of my family. Came back and she's totally fine! She was before we'd even left for camping. She hasn't vomited at all that I know of, so either she never ate the nail or it passed without injury. It's a relief to know that she'll be okay.
