Lost cost MRI options for dog in NY, NJ, CT

Hello.

My 5 year old Shih Tzu recently started to act lethargic, unresponsive and walked with an uncoordinated gait. After taking her to my vet, she was referred to a neurologist who recommended that she get an MRI to diagnose her condition. I want to help her but the MRI costs 2,000! I already spent almost 1,000 for vet visits, blood work and medication. Does anyone have any specific recommendations as to where I can find a lower cost MRI service? I live in NY and am willing to travel.

I appreciate any help because my little girl is suffering!

I did a little checking, and your estimate of $2000.00 is mid range of the $1750 to $2700 estimates I see. I am guessing most of the cost is based on equipment cost, to purchase, maintain and to use, plus costs of staff for an hour and the medications required to keep her quiet for an hour. I know how stressed you must feel, but a 'cut rate' MRI, if you could find such a thing, might not yield the accurate test information required.
