It seems my six-month-old pup has a case of never-ending kennel cough.
After two or three days of coughing, I took her to the vet on December 13th, where she was diagnosed with kennel cough and given a prescription for Clavamox. She was on it for fourteen days (two doses a day) but it didn't seem to get any better. As I've heard it can take longer to clear up in puppies, I decided to wait another two weeks to see if it would clear up on its on, but when it hadn't I took her back to the vet.
I went this past Friday (January 15th), and after a thorough exam the vet said that it probably was still kennel cough. However, she said that she had heard a Grade I heart murmur and that if the kennel cough hadn't cleared up in another two weeks it might be something to look more closely at. She gave her a prescription for Doxycycline and also advised me to deworm her with Panacur in case it might be parasite related.
She's been on the Doxycycline for five days now, and I just started the Panacur yesterday. However, her cough has gotten louder and more frequent, and just last night/this morning she started gagging up white foam/saliva with her cough, which she hadn't previously done. She was up most of the night last night coughing, far more than usual, and it broke my heart to watch.
Does anyone know if this is normal? Or have any advice on how to help get her better or at least make her more comfortable? As a new and first-time dog owner I honestly don't know what to do and I feel kind of alone in this.
Any help, advice, or insight would be much appreciated, thanks!
