How to test the condition of a dog's pancreas?
In January I lost my 11 year old Australian shepherd to pancreatitis. She seemed to just have had the one episode of the condition as she'd never really been one to vomit. Before this happened I'd bever heard of pancreatitis.
I have another dog- an australian shepherd mix. He's on the raw diet. He is very healthy now and I never want him to get what my other dog haf. If it were up to me he'd never see an ounce of fat, but my family keeps feeding him bits of cookies, hot dogs, cooked meat, toast with butter and peanut butter, dirty dishes, ect. Even though my dog doesn't get that much of this stuff and excersizes he seems to be kinda fat.
So i need to be able to get him tested at the vet at least once a year for pancreatitis. But as far as I know there are only tests that determine if the dog has or doesn't have it at the moment. Is there a test i can ask for that tells you if a dog has ever had it and what state the pancreas is in?
