Took my dog out to take a dump. He takes a dump. I went to look at how big of a turd he laid, and I find this.

At first I thought it was maybe like grass or a weed, so I pulled it out, and it was like spaghetti. I threw it in another yard, and went to wash my hands. After washing my hands I googled some **** and it says it is some sort of round worm. The humane society gave him his first dose on June 2nd, and I gave him one today. He had a vet visit and I brought a stool sample yesterday, but it did not look like this. Can they still tell if he has roundworms/parasites? They said it would be 2-3 days before they got the results of the sample. The vet thought he might have a parasite because he has a little pot belly but his ribs visually shown under his skin. What do misc? Is this an emergency and should I call vet ER or wait until tomorrow morning when my regular vet opens up.

If he still has round worms they would be able to see the eggs in a stool sample. You said heartworm med, did they give him a dewormer? It is usually typical procedure to deworm puppies the same time they get their vaccs. At the least the first two sets. Depending on the infestation will depend on how long he will shed them in his poop and the type of dewormer used.

I know he was dewormed at 8 weeks at the humane society. I just took him in for his second set of vaccinations, but it was a booster of the first set. The only thing I gave him was heartguard plus. I checked his stool this morning and he had more worms. My vet is not open yet, this is a good sign right? Means he is pooping them out?

1) It is not an emergency
2) You need to figure out what he was actually dewormed with at the humane society. He should have gotten another dose of that type of dewormer 3 weeks later.
3) As they die off, he's going to poop them out.
4) If they are still moving, then he's not pooping them out because the dewormer killed them off, he's just naturally going to poop some out.
5) Heartgard dose technically treat and control roundworms but he needs a different kind of dewormer, IMO. Once he's free, the heartgard should prevent him from getting more (but I've seen it happen).
6) Eggs should show up on the fecal test but sometimes you get a false negative if that sample happened to not have any shedding eggs (more commonly happens with Giardia).

Most puppies, especially shelter puppies with unknown backgrounds, have roundworms because they are transmitted to the puppies across the placenta in utero. They're not something to be super worried about that would warrant an ER visit unless the pup is sick. Just schedule an appointment with your vet to have your pup dewormed again.

Ok so update:

Called the vet, they prescribed some oral medicine. I applied 2 cc in the mouth today, and have to apply another 2 in 2 weeks. When he gets his third vaccinations in about a month I have to bring in another stool sample and go from there.
