I also use Nexgard, and so far so good with it. Not messy and smelly like the topicals, there are some bad side effects associated with it but so far Zody hasn't experienced any. The drawback is that if the dog does have a side effect nothing can be done but to wait it out for however long it takes and treat the symptoms.

My experience with the pet shop flea treatments is that they do not work nearly as well as the products that the vet sells. Years ago I had both my dogs have a negative reaction to Biospot, and I had to wash it off within a day of applying it.

Nothing that works is inexpensive. If the fleas are in your house, you are going to have to do, or have done, a complete treatment of your house, and all the furnishings, especially the soft chairs, beds etc. Once that is underway and under control, your dog will need to be treated with an effective flea medication. Our dog has had allergic reactions to virtually every oral flea med we have tried, so we use frontline, which works for us, and at least for our dog, does not seem to trigger any noticeable negative reaction.

I wouldn't ever use chemical flea products. I use wondercide, works on the dogs beautifully. If you have an infestation, you are going to have to treat the environment as well. Wondercide works on furniture and carpet as well, and they also have yard treatments too. Getting them off the dog is a start, but you need to treat for the eggs still to hatch, and bring more fleas. I haven't ever had a true infestation since using wondercide, so you may want to look into it.

When I just got baloo I struggled terribly with him with fleas and he got tick bite fever when he was just 10 weeks old. a friend recommended a CERESTO collar. They last 8 months. I thought it was too good to be true, but tried it anyway as I was petrified to lose him to tick bite fever. Baloo has not had a single flea (or tick) since he got the collar. and what is extra nice about it is if your dog is a water lover like mine, they can swim with the color or get a bath etc. doesn't change the effectiveness of the collar. I have just bought Baloo his second one last month.

All the girls I work with (including me) in the salon use Seresto, and it works amazingly. There are probably 30-40 pets all total and so far only one has ever had a reaction, it was a smaller kitten and she had to switch to Trifexis but kept the Seresto on her other pets. I love Bandit's Seresto, there are multiple inside-outside pets where I live and they get fleas regularly but Bandit hasn't had a problem with it since we got the collar, and he is highly allergic to fleas.

I absolutely love the Seresto collar! No oily stuff the deal with... lasts a long time... inexpensive if you order through Chewy. I go hiking a lot in the spring, summer and fall and I haven't found a single tick on her since using the collar. When I had her on Frontline, I was constantly pulling ticks off.
