Flea medicine post sereato collar

Simply put it, my 5mo lab had fleas, the vet suggested a seresto collar. After about 3 week of being on my dog i noticed she kept scratching ger neck. I took of the collar and noticed she had a rash where the collar was. So naturally i took the collar off. Well the fleas are back. I tookk off the collar about 3 days ago. The rash is alot better. Im wondering when i can start a new flea treatment and what some people recommend. Thanks

Sometimes the collar will cause a rash or irritation/hair loss. It typically heals itself without needing to take the collar off. You could call Bayer (I think they make the collar) and ask them what they recommend.

I just put my collar on my dog this weekend. She's scratching like crazy haha.

When your dog had fleas before, what did you do to treat the house and yard? People often forget to treat the yard and that's why the fleas continue to come back. They are such annoying creatures! Good luck!

Flea collars generally only provide protection in the neck area. Fleas will still hang around on other parts of the body. That's why I like to use flea medications instead of collars.

@Larkspur

The Soresto collar isn't a typical flea collar. It does protect the whole body.
@Alexp08

You probably want to retreat the house, treat the yard and after you vacuum, make sure you empty the vacuum cleaner. Personally, I would do this weekly for a month to make sure they are all gone--- but I am OCD so this may not be totally necessary.

That should be a problem, i vacuum regularly anyways. As far as the seresto collar. I callled bayer, they took my info and stated that it is uncommon for thia to happen, but it does. They told me not to put it back on but instead return it to my vet. They then gave me a reference number and told me to give it to my vet who would inturn be refunded by bayer. So i took it back already.
As far as treating the yard, i live in western MD and weve been getting aub freezing tempz at night lately. With the impending cold weather should i still treat the yard? If ao how.
Back to treatment for my dog. I went looking at tractor supply and alot of the flea treatment has a weight of up to 44lbs and over 45lbs. My dog is a 5mo lab that weighs 40lbs. Would it be okay to get the 45lb treatment? They only come in packs of 3 and i dont want to get the up to 44lbs for only one treatment as im sure shell grow 5 more lbs in a month.

Interesting- thanks from the info from Bayer. I'm going to keep a closer eye on my girls reaction to it since it's my first time with it.

Regarding the yard, I would still treat it. Fleas can survive the cold weather and they will be looking for a ride into the warm house. They MAY die during the frost, but I wouldn't take the chance. They make a variety of pesticides for the yard. You just need to research the one that works best for you. Tractor Supply may carry one. There may even be some all natural methods. I don't know of any so I can't speak to how well they work.

I don't think 5 lbs is a big deal. Weight can fluctuate +/-5 lbs monthly.

The Seresto flea collar works the same way topicals do. You only put them in one location, but the sebaceous glands in the skin distribute it throughout the entire body.

Anyway, I would see and talk to a vet. I'm not sure how common reactions are to the seresto collar....But with your situation, it's hard to tell whether it was related to the collar or not. You can also discuss alternatives. There's nothing else over the counter that I can really recommend or vouch for. Frontline isn't always effective these days. You'd want something oral like Nexgard.
