First nail injury

Echo caught her nail today.

It's no longer bleeding and we've flushed and treated it with iodine.

Any tips?

Should I go to the vet?

I plan on cutting the nail right back once it's not so tender. This will teach me for letting them get a bit long, she's getting way better at it and was pretty unfazed by treatment.

Update: Went to the vet, it required removal of the nail. Vet said it probably would have been seriously swollen and painful if we'd waited a day or two to bring her in.

Nails are so finicky. I think you did the right thing by taking her in. Once the outer shell of that nail is gone it leaves the nerves open and can be painful. Poor girl

My old girl severed her dew claw to the quick. My vet recommended leaving it, bandaging while out and bathing it with salt water. It did eventually come right and regrow.
