Would you say you have seen fewer side effects from Revolution, then from some of the others on the market. I am so wary of reactions and side effects, have had some scary experiences with Samantha and medication side effects. We almost lost her after she reacted to an antibiotic she got for a respiratory infection some years ago.

My elderly dog was on no flea treatments for the last 3 years of her life due to poor liver health. And guess what - not one flea or tick. OK we were lucky but just saying we can't always equate no fleas etc to the efficacy of a product.
I have a new dog now and I'm determined to avoid the usual commercial flea and tick products. You can gamble as to whether or not your dog will be in the unfortunate minority to suffer a serious side effect (or worse) but what about long term effects?
Say your pet gets health problems some years down the line - you will never know if your flea treatment caused or contributed to it.
Of course fleas and ticks can themselves cause illness so it's about achieving a balance. Personally I don't view a monthly dose of systemic insecticides as balanced. Especially as I don't live in a region with serious infestations. So going through all the alternatives now.

Any medication, preventative or curative will always be a risk vs benefit analysis. I know with no flea preventative, Samantha will most certainly be exposed to and will wind up with fleas. Even with meds, I occasionally will see the odd flea on her, but they fortunately do not persist for long. Samantha is quite allergic to flea bites, they will drive her nuts, and us along with her, so that preventative flea med is necessary. I don't medicate her for about four months or so out of the year, but during the 'flea season' there is really no choice. I would love to never have to medicate her for anything ever, but that unfortunately is not the reality of the world we live in.
