Dragging right rear leg.

Our dog Lemmy is having an issue.

I left on a hunting trip last Friday (5/4). Got back the following Sunday(5/6). Noticed Lemmy was dragging his right rear leg. Not limping on it but dragging it like dead weight.

Mother said he started doing it the night I left. He's acting 100% normal other than the leg dragging.

He eats, drinks, urinates, defecates and shows zero pain. Checked him for cuts, breaks, pain, etc. Found nothing. Took him to the vet yesterday (Tues) and they did bloodwork, etc. Vet said could be a Tumor on spine or maybe the Sciatic nerve. Gave Lemmy antiinflamatories. Said if no progress by Friday, bring him back for xrays.

Anybody out there have a similar situation?

Thanks for any info.

My dog presented with left side hind leg weakness. She didn’t really drag it but she was paw knuckling and it was obviously weaker than her other legs. Unfortunately her situation ended up being spinal cancer. I will say that this isn’t exactly like your situation because it didn’t happen suddenly. It was progressive and started off as subtle changes like problems getting up when laying down. I’m hoping it’s something acute but if the anti inflammatories don’t work then I’d go to a neurologist. That’s what I did and my dog had to have MRI. It didn’t give me the answer I wanted but it gave me peace of mind knowing there’s nothing else I could’ve done.

Best of luck to you.

If he were mine, I would be pushing for Xray's and if those were inconclusive an MRI, which would most likely provide the detailed images needed for a diagnosis. Dogs will not show pain, instinctively until they are overwhelmed by it.
