Dog suddenly sensitive to light touch

Today, he began showing irritation when I touch his coat lightly. But, he still loves normal touch.

Is there any medical reason he'd be sensitive to light touch against his fur?

Medical is the most likely reason; please call your vet and make an appointment.

I don’t know, because I am not a vet. But things that jump to mind are a skin infection, an injury you can’t see, belly pain due to any number of causes, or even something effecting his nerves. The only person who can reasonably say what is wrong with him is a vet.

Yes, check with vet. My dog has twitched from light touch on skin before due to having rash from shampoo allergy.
