If you're able to, you should contact a vet specialist, like an orthopedic vet or have a vet radiologist look at the x-rays. Search online and see what you can find near you.
A lot of times people don't realize that vet specialists are available. Just like with humans when we go to specialists, our pets can too. Your regular vet is like your regular doctor. They treat the most common problems, but if something out of the ordinary is going on, it's good to seek out a specialist in the field you need.
