Dog ate pieces of sanitary napkin

So my 11 year old 23lb Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix decided to be disgusting this morning by going into the bathroom and taking a sanitary napkin (wrapper and all) out. He chewed it up and I am pretty sure he ate pieces of it. Not even half of it. As of right now he is fine. Playing, ate some canned food, but it's probably been an hour. I called the vet that is opened today and she said (when I asked) that it is a bigger concern when a whole pad is swallowed. Is that true? I know to watch for the signs of lethargy, lack of appetite, vomiting. What are the chances of him just passing the pieces? Should I go into full panic mode at this time?

Been there, done that. My dog just passed the pieces out of his system in a couple of days. If your dog chewed up smaller pieces and isn't acting sick, it will probably be ok.

Now, I always make sure to close the bathroom door.

My last dog did that many years ago. Chewed it up very thoroughly. By then I'd gotten so used to him chewing up so many things and was still paying the hospital credit card bill from the razor he chewed from the trash that I don't think I even thought to call the vet. He was fine no issues whatsoever.
I just got better trash cans with lids.

How come she ate a napkin? Where did you throw your used napkins by the way? Zoey ate many times a napkins which is already used by my sister who's really irresponsible on her own dirt but luckily my dog is ok and no issues found.
