Question Dog appears ill for unknown reasons - Thoughts? Ideas?

Hello everyone,

I am completely stumped as to what my dog may be suffering from. I hope someone here has seen these symptoms and know what may be causing them. Here is some background:

- 11 month old American foxhound who seems to be very tired but not lethargic since Thursday evening (5 days). He has been eating somewhat (less than usual) but does not seem to want to drink (will with assistance). I brought him to the vet yesterday and he checked out okay. He was neutered 5 weeks ago and during this time his blood-work came back normal. The vet did not take another blood sample. He focused mainly on the dog's diet as we have fed him a high protein diet (chicken). He advised to switch to a better and more dog food and to mix it up. His symptoms still include the following:
- very tired and sleeping most of the day (usually full of energy)
- started recently biting his nails on one particular foot (last couple days)
- licking his groin area (last couple days)
- no urge to drink on his own
- appetite is average
- appears to have trouble walking up stairs (doesn't appear to be in pain but takes the stairs very slowly)
- sleeping in a new position (on his side with back legs facing forward)

I have seen no improvement whatsoever and these changes have appeared drastic. Hope someone can help shed some light here.

Thank you Diamond. I definitely thought about getting a second opinion. His water intake definitely concerns me.

When my dog wouldn't drink anything, I gave some Pedialyte in an eyedropper. Helps keep them hydrated until you figure everything out.
