I feel like I've had colds over the years and my cats and dog also wound up sneezing and coughing around the same time. But they all like to steal my pillow and sleep on my bed and cuddle right up against my face all the time do get very close, more risky I'd think.

The vet mentioned the dog flu going around and was happy to say that it wasn't that, because he wasn't exhibiting those symptoms. What a relief, I'd be so sad if the dog got the flu. I know that viruses probably get passed around plenty at day care. It's a great place, the dogs all play together, usually small dogs and big dogs separated, but Kiko plays well with all size dogs. So, I know people probably bring their dogs in sick, or not knowing they are sick.

Kiko has been vaccinated for kennel cough but he still got it anyway about two months ago, I don't really understand that.

There is some controversy regarding the bordetella vaccine, and frequency it is required, if its required at all. My own experience, when we adopted Samantha, she had Bordetella (Kennel cough) and she was so sick with it. She would cough all night, we wound up sitting up with her, on shifts at night, seemed like forever, probably 7 to 10 days, though. Since then, that was eight years ago, I get her that nasal vaccine every six months. She has never reacted to it, nor has she had bordetella again. I, of course, can not with 100% certainty say regularly vaccinating her against bordetella has absolutely protected her, but I can say, it certainly does not seem to have done any harm.
