Diarrhea

I'm new to the forum! I've been going through it for awhile when I first got my puppy and was dealing with puppy Blues. He just turned 6 months old and recently had his food changed when my dad bought the wrong kind of food and our cat ripped into it so we couldn't return it, he first had the most solid poop he's ever had the first day and then it was diarrhea, and he's needing to go out constantly, we stopped his food and made him hamburger and rice and have been giving him water but he still is having diarrhea and last night he had explosive diarrhea when he never has accidents in the house! It's been 2 days? Of this diarehha and I called our vet and they told me rice and chicken broth and if it doesn't help bring him in. The chicken broth I have is a reduced sodium but one contains onion and the other is Campbell's reduced sodium with lots of other things I don't feel safe feeding him? He has had all his shots and boosters I don't know what's wrong and I'm super nervous?

The first thing to do is not feed him for at least 12 hours. His bowels are irritated and need time to heal a little.

Boil or microwave plain chicken, then shred it with a fork. Mix the shredded chicken with equal quantities of plain cooked white rice. No spices, no seasonings, no vegetables, no packaged or canned broth. Just plain chicken and white rice.

Start him on small quantities of the chicken and rice mix, maybe a quarter of a cup, three times a day. After a day or two, increase the amount to half a cup, and after a day or two, increase it to a full cup. After a week of plain chicken and rice, begin introducing his regular food, first in small amounts and then gradually increasing it while reducing the chicken and rice.

You might also ask your vet for a probiotic food additive that you can give him with his meals while you're going through this process.
