Dealing with urine smell

I have an elderly dog on diuretics for his heart condition. He can not make it through the night with urinating, so he uses a floor pad. This makes for a smelly situation. I use the pads for humans (they are more affordable than the dog version), and they are impregnated with something to reduce the odor, but it's not enough. If there any product that would neutralize the odor as soon as the urine hits the pad?

You could try mixing half baking soda and half spill compound (powder), it should help with the spill and make cleanup easier.

I'd spray the pad with an enzyme cleaner, like Nature's Miracle, or Out!, before putting the pad down, then when he uses it you can spray the spot again. It might not completely fix the problem but should help. Personally I like the smell of Out! better then Nature's Miracle.
