Aunts diabetes dog crazy??

Hi I am 19 and looking after my aunts diabetes dog for two days while she has had to travel for work. Its a golden retriever and it was behaving well yesterday she told me I didn't need to do much for it just be around the house with it and give it its dog food. Today it seems like it's going crazy! It keeps going in to her kids room and making noise in the corner even though I'm the only person in the house!! It was really calm yesterday!

I have some Fentanyl (strong painkillers) and think I should probably give it some to help it calm down like it was before because it's obviously stressed. When I have some I only lick a little bit so I was thinking if I dilute that into water and give it half a glass?? I got it out of the room for a bit by feeding it a bunch of food from the cupboard but now it's back in there again I think that might have made it worse.

Wow... do NOT share your Fentanyl with a dog, please... potentially very toxic drug and a very strong one! I wonder why you have some at your home. I gather this diabetic dog is not on insulin? You sure it's a diabetic? On any special diet? You have a vet nearby? Is it eating OK and drinking water OK? Hope your aunt gets back soon. I can't offer any advice for such a weird situation... just recommend you try to communicate with your aunt's regular veterinarian and ask him or her what they know about this case.

No no it's not a diabetic dog it's ok! It's a diabetes service dog that barks when her blood sugar gets low I think.

Thanks for your advice. I don't know the vet. I am pretty sure the dog still needs calming I don't know if this painkiller thing is a good idea so I'm going to give it a few panadol and some cough syrup?? Have you ever needed to give your dog these? Will they work?

Do not give your dog human medications.

If you think the dog is in distress take it to a vet.

The dog is probably experiencing some separation anxiety and the kids room probably smells like sugar. Keep the door to it closed and as soon as the dog lays down toss it s few treats.

She has a diabetes alert dog...that doesn't travel with her?

Either way, do not give your dog human medications. Of any kind.

Google or search a local vet if you're concerned the dog is in pain. If he is crying/barking, try playing with him.

Closing this thread.

OP- if this situation is true, DO NOT give the dog human medication. You could kill the dog. Call your aunt and let her know of the situation. I'm surprised her SD isn't traveling with her...
