I don't know if this has been solved, but apparently Akitas don't take too kindly to pine oil, which is in most cleaning products. My Akita developed a rash that turned into nasty sores oozing puss, the dog was in hell with itching.

Simple answer I change my cleaning products to "simply green" brand. Within a week it cleared right up.

Pine oil I suspect is the culprit.

My cat was scratching himself raw and looked like an abuse case with all the raw scabs he always had. Aergy testing was only $300 and he was allergic to basically everything. What I didn't figure out for a long time was that he's allergic to pine and I still was using feline pine kitty litter. Once my friend finally realized it and asked me about it I switched kitty litter and he's been much better. I also changed him to iams dry food and canned food that doesn't have any ingredients that he's allergic to. All the vets say the food allergy tests aren't accurate, do why do them? And why would I feed him something he does test allergic to?
So idd suggest doing at least the allergy testing from a vet school since it's not that much and changing your cleaning products. If you think he's worse from lying on your carpet all day, spread a blanket out or get hom a dog bed.
