Advice for Canine Teeth Extractions

My dog is a dachshund/whippet mix (27 lbs). My dog just had her teeth cleaned and two teeth were removed. Her two bottom canines (the big sharp teeth) are wearing away and rotting. The vet presented us with two options:

Option 1: Remove the canines. This is a very risky procedure because the roots of these teeth are large and deep. There is a chance that her jaw could fracture. This procedure would cost $800.
Option 2: A root canal on both teeth done by a doggy dentist. This is the safest procedure, but will cost $2800. (We live in Denver, so the cost of everything is high.)

I'm not sure what to do. We love our dog, but she's becoming quite expensive! But we also want to do what's best for her health!

root canals always best unless the roots are already abcessed.. .then they need to come out regardless... but we almost always have the specialist remove lower canines on smaller dogs due to the fracture dangers. They are experts at getting those rotting teeth out of there without doing any further damage (cost will still be over $800, but likely under $2600).
