Our black lab, Valor, will be 11 years old next month and about a month ago, he started pooping in the house. (note: he is a seeing eye dog and went through rigorous training so that this would never be an issue, so we don't think it's a behavioral problem.) When the issue began, it was diarrhea so we got him to the vet right away. The vet got him a prescription to treat a potential parasite, but we soon learned that wasn't the issue. While he was having the diarrhea we were switching to a diet of completely chicken and rice, and a spoonful of canned pumpkin. But it appeared to be only treating the diarrhea. After a few days the pooping in the house stopped and so did the diarrhea.
Then, a few days later we found another present in the house, in the same spot. It wasn't diarrhea, but the stool was a lot looser than typical for Valor. We assumed he was having trouble holding it and decided we needed to leave the door open for a few days until he gets back into the habit. And since has been the pattern. He goes in the house, we clean it up and feed him some pumpkin, and leave the door open for a few days, the presents stop, we close the door. And then he goes in the house again.
Some of the more curious symptoms to me are:
He always goes in the same spot
The stool is still very loose
Any feedback will be appreciated. We're grasping for straws at this point.
