Advice needed on grooming longer haired lab

Hi everyone!
I own a beautiful chocolate Labrador named Bonnie and she's a pure blooded lab, but she's so different from the labs I usually see. She's super stocky, and has longer fur than normal. While she's not long haired, I certainly wouldn't call her short haired. She's always been massive and slightly chubby, despite being on diets, and has folds upon folds of furry skin.

I've read that you're not supposed to cut a lab's fur, but hers is longer and so thick! I worry about things getting trapped in all that fur and she's sometimes itchy. I also live in a rather hot climate and while I've read the double coat helps keep them cool, maybe it's different for sub-tropical places? She's just so different from typical Labradors I don't know if she's a special case. I'd really appreciate some advice!

You should not shave your Labrador Retriever. Labradors have loads of different fur types depending on if they are working line or show line. My labrador has very short fur whereas my friends lab has long hair. You just need to brush with a furminator type brush. Shaving won't make a different. You say your dog itches alot, maybe medicated shampoo will ease that. If you feel like your dog is too chubby maybe another brand of food and more exercise. My labrador gets 1-2 hours a day and three times a week we go cycling together. She is 26kg. The weight a female lab should weigh is from 25kg-30kg. If she is any more it could be due to big bones. Labs tend to be very stocky anyways.
Main thing is, do not shave your Labrador unless a professional groomer or veterinarian tells you otherwise x

Thanks for responding! I unfortunately don't have any pictures of her on the device I'm using, but she's definitely a Labrador! We're friends with the family who owns her mother, and they're friends with the people who own her father, Bonnie was a gift from them. We know her brothers and sisters, and picked her out ourselves.

Thanks for the advice! I really appreciate help from another Labrador owner. Haven't thought about medicated shampoo, definitely something worth trying! Her food's been switched, and she's currently on a grain free diet, but she's certainly big boned. When she was a puppy the vet would look at the size of her paws and tell me she was going to be huge. She gets regular exercise, so I think she's good in that area. Thanks again for the help!
