My wife's vacuum cleaner is on its last legs, and we need something that can pick up pet hair, specifically Samoyed hair and tumbleweeds. She has an aversion to upright vacuums (but hasn't ruled them out as this seems to be the way all super powerful vacuums are going), as she finds the hose attachments cumbersome usually - she likes being able to step on the release lever of a 2-piece and get into corners and under couches then pop it back in - no unwinding a hose and then coiling it back.
So, anyone have a suggestion of a decent 2-piece, or upright with an easy to mange hose system? Thanks in advance.
Its fab!!! it copes with carpet , tiles and wooden floors, comes with loads of attachments, is wayyyyy cheaper than a dyson and has never let us down...3 years later using it twice a day its still going strong
The last time I needed a new vacuum, I started by telling the clerk I had a long-haired white dog. He replied, "I have two long-haired dogs. You need a Dyson." That was when Dysons were new on the market, and I still have the same vacuum. I just got the regular model, but I was told at the time that if I ever wanted to get the animal hair attachments that the Hoover attachments were the same, cheaper, and fit the Dyson. I've never bothered to get them, so I'm not sure if that's true or not.
The basic Dyson does a good job for me, though it was a little scary how much hair it picked up the first time I used it on what I thought was a relatively clean carpet. I've also had other people use it and admire what a thorough job it does. And yes, it doesn't require you to buy additional filters--you just clean out the one it comes with as often as you feel it needs to be cleaned, depending on what kind of use you put it through. I also have allergies, and the Dyson is ranked high for use against common household allergens beyond dog hair. I find it's much easier to empty than the other vacuums I owned too.
My dog groomer got one after I recommended it, and she was impressed as well--and if anyone knows about dog hair, it's a groomer.
people must have wayyyyy more luck with dysons than us. We have friends who swear by them..we had no luck what so ever. Im not convinced that they pick up more than my hoover, its just my floor fluff is in a bag (that goes into he compost bin)not in a cylinder you can see...an old lady i visit has a dyson and its rubbish too..it just pushes things around the floor..that said she is a pagan like me and if it works she wont replace it ..gawd only knows how old it is hahahahahahaha...now i take mine and give a bit of a clean for her when im there..
^ I also have had zero luck with Dyson. They're so overpriced, and all the ones that I've used don't really work. When my fiance was in college, his roommate went and bought a brand new dyson, and it was terrible. Didn't pick up anything, and it was very heavy.
The thing I noticed about our Dyson is the weight and how quiet it is.
I found one on half price sale which allowed me to justify the cost, but one can find
great deals online compared to in store.
My mother bought a refurbished one on Amazon for a fraction of the cost new and has lasted her years and works just as good as the one I bought.
I have a regular old vacuum (the dogs chewed the hose of it....) so I had to buy a separate hand vac.
I found the bissel pet hair eraser! It's so nice! We have predominantly hard wood floors in the house, but I use the hair eraser on the small area rug, couches, curtains, and it's great for the stairs. I don't have a recommendation on a large vacuum but I can tell you that I LOVE the hand vac!
For me, the most important thing is to pick a vacuum cleaner that is constructed for dog hair. They have special tools which help with dog hair, their filters are better, and pet hair doesn't wrap around the brush. I recently bought Bissell ProHeat and I'm satisfied at least for now
I recently purchased one of those robotic vacuums that vacuum on their own. The one I bought is made for pet hair. It was about $130.00. It works great on tile or hardwood floors. It sweeps more than vacuums, so not recommended for carpet. It's great for the smooth surfaces. You don't do any of the work, it turns on. zips around doing the cleaning and then docks itself until the next scheduled time. You'd still need to get another vacuum to go with it, but it will sure save you a lot of work if you have the right type of flooring for it.
Dyson Animal Ball. Costco has them for a lot less than some of the prices I have seen on this thread. It virtually makes carpets look as though they have been reconditioned.
If you are looking for a manual vac, then Miele Cat and DogS7260 is a way to go for you, it is expensive though. But still in the long run, it's a good investment. Personally, I've recently got The Roomba 980 and it works incredibly fine for pet hair even on carpets. If you are interested, check out the reviews here . Hope it works for you too
