Working on a new product to help protect smaller dogs from attacks by larger ones in off-leash areas. Would appreciate if people took my 1 minute survey!

Thats a great idea- I think my dog needs full armour like in the 1800s for dog parks. She got bowled by a big dog once & she did 3 rolls/flips in the air & kept running back to me. I literally stopped breathing! After that I wouldnt let her down when the big dogs were running, which is awful cos she makes a weird shreiking noise cz she so badly wants to. Luckily no dog has ever chomped or bitten her- I put this down to how friendly & confident she greets them, she walks up like she's the size of a great dane & they treat her with the respect she deserves. She has had dogs give her a warning snap of air goin for a sniff or kiss sometimes tho & her lightening fast reflexes have gotten her away quicker than they could get her. Im grateful she understands dog language.

In my experience most attacks can be seen coming and most dog parks have areas for small dogs. Obviously this is not all, but most. Personally I would not be a customer for this product, but I know a lot of people would be. My biggest concern as a business person is that a product like this already exists in the fit of the Coyote Vest. If you are going to put money into developing something new it should be significantly better than what is already available.

I think this is a horrible idea. You remove the large dog's ability to defend themselves, especially when and if the smaller dog instigates. If your small dog can't handle playing with large dogs most parks I have been to have 2 separate areas, 1 for small and 1 for large. If I saw a small dog wearing a protective collar and I had my dogs there I would likely say something or leave.

They might have seperate areas where you live but they dont provide that in ANY of the dog parks I've been to in nz sadly! If you actuaully did the survey like was asked- that is what the purpose of it is- to gather info on what people want. It has a selection to choose which does NOT harm the large dog at all, which I selected & size is a masif advantage in a fight. Not all dogs show warnings & loads of little dogs have been running playing happily when a big dog mistakes them for prey, hunts them grabs them in the mouth picking them up, puncturing ribs & a few shakes & the little dog is dead. I've owned small & big dogs & am not biased towards one or the other, I would never want the large dog to be harmed by the collar but I would feel so much better knowing my dog had some protection. She is friendly & loves big dogs & gets very upset when a big dogs too rough or just plain nasty to her. I rescued a small dog that had been picked up by her back leg by a roaming pitbull- she is a very sweet dog- not aggresive at all & was on a lead with her previous owner when it happened. Her owner gave her to me as she was too terrified to walk her in her area anymore- not fair. I had months of being nursey to get this wound to heal properly, so sad ?

I did fill out the survey, as well as provide additional feedback.

My dogs have been attacked before as well. We all have to take steps to keep them safe. I find it better to focus on preventing the attack in the first place. As stated above, I would not purchase such a product but I know people who would. I think anyone trying to make money should look at the existing products and how well they are performing.

the protection collar is a form of prevention from attacks that otherwise cant be foreseen. The best way to make a new product is by market research & finding out what people want not just looking at whats already available, + not all products are available in every country, so if a new manufacturer invents something equivelent or better & its distributed or sold here- great. Products also run out of stock so we need more than 1 or 2 companies worldwide making similar products. I cant go anywhere without worrying a big dogs going to hurt mine- its like having a puppy for aprox 15yrs, I cant prevent another dog doing things when theyre both off leash & she needs the exercise. The full jackets are far too hot in summer, small dogs are much more at risk of over heating as their little bodies cant hold much water. They shouldnt be wearing clothes if they're running around- only on walks or the rest of the time if theyre cold.
