I looked into GPS trackers a few years ago and liked the sound of "Dog Tracker Nano" and "Tractive" systems but decided against either in the end. They're expensive to buy, don't come with tamper proof collars as standard and both systems require additional “extras” but neither is as safe or reliable as you'd expect with reviews often referring to very poor signal if you or the dog is anywhere but out in the open.
Why don't you just have the dog chipped? It's a one-time fee and you can also request a tag for the collar too. Any GPS device usually requires a yearly fee to keep it updated. I checked Tile and it was just too expensive to use for anything, even my keys.
You should try the Trackidog it implements this cool feature called geo-fencing and it has low monthly fees in contrast to some dog gps trackers.
