Hello, Newbie here. I have a 5 year old GSD and a 5 mth old rottie pup. Looking for a cushiony dog bed that is vinyl or rubber. wipeable or can be hosed down. I currently crate the rottie pup and I have a kitchen antifatique mat in there that can be washed. I throw a bath towel over it for softness, but that towel is easily washed. Now the GSD was living the good life until the pup came along. My husband brought home a huge piece of memory foam and I threw a rug and a couple blankets and basically wrapped the memory foam. still easily washable. She is very gentle and her bed was never a problem. She likes to lie on it with her head off of it and on the hardwood floor. Now along comes the pup and he likes to share her bed. He is not graceful or gentle and that bed is always a mess. WE just found out my son is allergic to dog dander so every thing needs to be washed a lot. Anyhoo....has anyone tried using anything wipeable as a dog bed? Those foam squares for kids, the heavier duty squares for gyms, garage flooring, horse stall mats, thick yoga mats? They have this rolled rubber flooring at Tractor Supply which looks awesome, but I worry it will too hard for the GSD who is used to memory foam. I like the idea of those raised mesh dog beds, but that won't work for the girlie who likes her head on the ground. I have also tried a crib mattress, but also too high. ooh, sorry that was so long.

Shipping crate for the grown-up, & stick her bed inside it?

.

is the GSD crate-trained?
if so, i'd park her original mem-foam bed in the crate, & teach the pup to stay OUT of it - i'd give him an easily-washed alternative for himself, & give her a break from the brat. :p

Familiarity can easily breed contempt, or even resentment - her cushy familiar bed & having it to herself is one way of reducing the always-in-her-face factor of the pup.

Alas, her memory foam bed is in fact big enough for two. It is 55" x 40". Its great for her because when she lays full out she still fits. She isn't crate trained, not that that bed would fit in one. The rottie actually seems to run a big hot and doesn't actually like to sleep on the bed with her. During the day he prefers lying on the hardwood. He'll hang out with her often on it. Its not hard to disrupt the rug and tucked in bed sheet wrapped around the memory foam. I'm home most days with them, so I try to keep him in check. The GSD has a nice thick coat and likes to hang out in the fenced in back yard with her ball. She doesn't mind the cold, but the little one (I guess I can't call him that anymore) has to come inside because he doesn't have the fur for it. I used to feel so bad for Gracie the GSD dog because she was all alone and I worried about boredom. Well, she sure as heck isn't bored anymore. LOL

holy moly. this is exactly what I am looking for. I cannot tell you how many google searches for wipeable washable dog mats I've done, and have never come across these. I was considering buying a kids tumbling mat...which is what this looks like
