Looking for winter jackets for harness wearing dog

Hi all,

I have a 17 pound 6 month old Pug. Already begun getting cold here in Toronto. Dog is doing fine in the near 0c weather. Even when it was -5c. Still, it will get even colder in time. And as much as I think it's a little too cutesy for dogs to wear clothing...I've been looking for a good quality winter jacket for my Pug.

All the big names I've found (e.g. Canada Pooch, Hurta) have good jackets but all have the slit positioned too close to the collar. Making them only suitable for collar wearing dogs.

My Pug's harness is 2-3"south of the collar line and the ring is positioned horizontally. ALL jacket makers oddly have the slits positioned vertically. For collar wearing dogs.

Does any one know of any dog jacket makers with the slit in a horizontal position 2.5-3" south of the collar?

Thanks.

Excellent advice Kelly. Jacket UNDER the harness. DUH!! :)))

The way his harness is designed he wouldn't be able to slip out. It's tight enough. Even if I buy one size larger (which I'm planning to do...currently wearing XS PetLove harness bought from www.amazon.ca). A solution not even the jacket manufacturer CS people could suggest. :)

Having a slit custom tailored into the jacket? Thought of that but that would run ...actually, it would run around $10-11 at our local Loblaws...has a dry cleaner setup there that does simple shortening of pants. Should do small slits.

Also, I just found a jacket manfacturer that has put rings onto the back of the jacket in the middle making the jacket itself the harness. :) Why don't ALL jacket manufacturers do this? :)

Actually, a tailor or seamstress could do as that manufacturer did. Sew a ring onto the jacket back. No need to cut a slit through the jacket. :) Double stitch to secure the ring to the jacket. :) NO need for a harness! :)

A comment. They money companies like Canada Pooch and Hurta ask for their jackets is ridiculous. The amount of fabric used is less than a quarter of that used on a kid's jacket. Yet they are asking $50.00+ for each.

I posted a URL for another winter jacket maker. Doesn't have the cache but the material used I don't think is that different. And yet this manufacturer is asking 1/5 the $. Just $10.00. Better design. If a little simpler.

it's not like any dog winter jacket is going to have the same high quality real goose down found in a The North Face jacket. Or a Canada Goose parka. Nor do they use Goretex for the shell. The outside material.

As Much as I love dogs like the rest of you I hate how we're being taken advantage of by dog accessory companies and the vets (most). I knew this having had 2 dogs previously. Both lived to near 17 years.
