Which Harness is best for Dogs in the car?

Hi everyone,

I recently got a beautiful golden with my girlfriend. Her name is Reily and she's a saint!

We do a lot of travelling, for work and for fun, and we put onto the idea of safety gear for the dog when in the car.

My question is do you know a good place to get a safety harness for the pup, ideally adjustable for when she grows, so we can have peace of mind when we're on those long trips.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Have a great one.

I looked into this too and finally came to the conclusion that there are two companies that have passed crash test certification. One is EzyDog and the other Sleepypod Clickit. I first considered getting clickit because they have color choices as well as passing crash tests. lol. But then I read reviews and it was pretty common to hear that people said the harness would end up loosening up. Maybe they just adjusted it wrong. I ended up buying Ezydog.

It is very well made. Heavier straps just like a child's car seat. Adjusting to the correct size is quite involved, but you feel even more reassured in the quality after adjusting the straps. My dog is 65 pounds. If your dog is a puppy you won't be able to have one harness and have it able to adjust as your dog grows from 15 pounds to 60+ pounds.

I have mixed feelings about the Ezydog harness. I can clearly see that it's well made. My problem is that my dog keeps getting out of hers. Which implies that it's not tight enough, but the neck part of the size that I bought can't get any tighter and yet the chest part is the correct fit according to the chart. It feels quite tight, but it only stays on her until she decides she wants it off then she uses the stiffness of the harness to brace against the back of the seat and just pushes backward until she's free. It's frustrating. I actually stopped using it and right now I'm using a normal harness that has heavy straps. It's a Max and Neo harness.

I strap her in using the handle of the strap, not the clip. It's well built, but it is not crash test certified.

One of the other problems I have with Ezydog is how confined she is. You have to thread the normal seatbelt through the handles of the harness and click it in just like you would for yourself. The dog can sit, but that's about it. When she lays down it gets a bit messed up and she's looks uncomfortable.

If you want to try one, check the return policy to make sure it can be returned if it doesn't work for your dog.
