Shamas' harness is stretched out from dragging me all winter. No big deal, I didn't expect a cheap fleece harness to last long, I just didn't want to pay out for a good one to be wrecked in bad weather
As warm weather approaches, I'm looking for something that will fit without rubbing his armpits or chafing, and give me a front clip if possible
I'd like to start rollerblading with him, assuming the blades don't scare him. The one time he doesn't seem scared and reactive is when he's running already-then he's just happy
I definitely DON't want to do that with him on a collar, and certainy not with him on the Martingale that he currently wears
He's not shown any reactivity to bikes, skateboards....only traffic. I don't think he's seen rollerblades yet- so he'd have to be held while I'm on them, and see how he reacts, out at a park with bike paths. There are a few great places around here
I found one harness on that site. I have actually looked at a very similar one on Amazon- It's designed for Service dogs in training, and has patches on both sides, that says IN TRAINING, which I like, especially for walking in the area, to warn off other dog owners. what it doesnt have is a front clip though...so I've held off on buying. in case I cna find a more suited harness.
I did pick up a basic strap harness, again from Petsmart...it was cheap, but fits him well, with the help of their trainer Though I expect it might rub if he gets running. I like the metal buckle, and the loop the the front of the chest could double as a clip if I need to use it as such....
I'm considering the payout for a Ruffwear harness, which got great reviews from Sympawtico training. Buyers seem to like it.
I have a couple acquaintances who run and bike with their dogs. They use and rave about alpine outfitters urban trail harnesses. Iirc, that harness can be either custom made or purchased as an adjustable harness. The custom version, I am pretty sure, has multiple ring options you can choose from including to the front.
My guys wear ruffwear webmasters for walks, hikes, outings, etc. and I really like them. However it doesn't have a front clip.
The ruffwear frontrange harness does have a front attachment and is well made. ime though it fits some dogs well and others poorly. With my dogs, the neck is much too loose even at the tightest setting. So just try on and size in person berfore buying if able. Posted via Mobile Device
that Alpine outfitters harness looks almost exctly like a harness that I was looking at yesterday and seriously considerred. Howeever, the one I was looking at is custom-made to the measuerments of your dog, and by the time I have added the optional front and side biking loops, reflective strips and embroidering with his license #...comes to $89.
I like that the Alpine harness is able to rotate ont he dog's body, allowing more freedom of movement on the run. As it turns out, he LOVES the rollerblades.. I clipped a carabiner to the front strap of his current harness to make quick corrections, and after only a couple he had the idea. Now I'm teaching him GO LEFT and GO RIGHT, so we don't trip each other up lol
I use the Alpine outfitters urban harness for running (with a joring belt and bungee line). Works great for my BC. He seems very comfortable. No rubbing. He swims in it regularly while we're out on the trail and its holding up great. I got the adjustable version so I can fit it to both my similar size dogs. Great investment. And yes, you can have additional D-rings added if desired.
Hey, i could not recommend this store more to you! I bought both, the bungee leash and the running one. Their customer service is amazing. This was not the only purchase i made there, i keep coming back
Just let him run anywhere he wanted to because they needed that also but sure you will focus on looking after him. If you're afraid that he might be lost, then put something on his collar like a tracking device or a name tag with your contact number so that in case of emergency, they can just give it back to you. I have 4 dogs and I don't put harness to them coz it feels like they are being prisoned. Let them be happy.
If you saw my dog's reaction to me pulling out his harness, I don't think you would doubt his happiness.
