Debo is..special. He has a weird shape-long neck and small head since hes a beagledor. Basically, he's a skinnier, shorter lab with long legs.

He uses it to his advantage by ducking and bolting like a madman put of every harness and collar lile he finally tasted freedom. I'm running out of options because he does it often enough. He thinks the neighborhood is a playground!

Any suggestions?

sighthound martingale collar & Sure-Fit harness

.

limited-slip W-I-D-E martingale collar, sighthound style [no buckle], adjusted so that it will NOT fit over his head.
No matter how he wriggles & reverses, it can't fit over his backskull *if* it's properly adjusted.
[to remove such a collar, U must slide the adjustment -open-, then refit the collar every time it's put back on.]

also, the Sure-Fit harness is very good -
adjusts at 5 points, & literally fit every dog i put it on as if it was tailor-made. // Don't forget to fit it SNUG & SMOOTH - on a double-coated dog, there should be visible 'harness tracks' where the straps lay when it's taken off, & the haircoat should bristle at the edges of the straps, where it's compressed.
On a smooth-coated dog, the skin should pop up slightly at the edge of the straps, as the tissue beneath is slightly compressed. On any dog, no fingers should fit between strap & dog's body; the harness should only move slightly if tugged on with both hands, pulling to one side. it should NOT shift several inches sideways when tugged.

They are not in my experience going to be able to slip a properly fitted martingale collar. If you wish to use a harness you can fit the martingale collar with the harness. Connect the two with either a sort rope that has snaps on each end or a carabiner. I personally use a locking gate carabiner. Works wonders. My moms giant mutt could slip almost every harness. We did this exact thing. She would wiggle out of the harness and get stuck on the collar. Eventually we stopped using harnesses. She stopped trying to escape the collar once we corrected the behavior. Also redirecting there attention the moment they start the I’m going to escape behavior is a must. But it is sometimes difficult. I’d also try to keep the dog engaged in the walk give treats and verbal praise when walking and doing what they are supposed to. Correct them if needed but attempt to redirect prior and praise them for doing good. Correcting the behavior is what’s important. Even if you get an escape proof whatever that’s not going to stop the behavior and they will continue to try to escape because they will think they still can. They may eventually stop on there own but a stubborn dog won’t unless you correct the behavior.
