Dog Bed to substitute for couch?

My two sweet pups sleep overnight on an old couch that is in our loft. Due to my husband's allergies, this is the only piece of furniture on which they are allowed - if he sits on this couch, he has itchy eyes and a runny nose within minutes.

The bad news (for the dogs) is that this couch is going to have to go. My husband just took a job in which he will be working from home. This room is being renovated into a proper/official office for him. We have nowhere else to put the couch (plus it's almost 20 years old and not in great shape).

The dogs have beds on the first floor that they lay on during the day, but they spend the night upstairs (same floor as my bedroom) on this couch.

I want to buy additional dog beds for them and put them in the hall outside my room. But I'm trying to figure out what is is that they like about the couch (aside from the fact that it's human furniture) so I can mimic that with the new dog beds.

Do you think that they like the couch because it's elevated/up off the floor (if so I'd get an elevated bed)? Maybe it's the thickness of the cushions (I'd look for the thickest bed I can find)? What do you think?

I feel awful about getting rid of their "bed" so I want to get this right. I've seen beds that literally look like tiny chairs/couches, but that seems like something created by a human to appeal to humans rather than for the benefit of the dog, but maybe I'm wrong. Any thoughts?

If you use the cushions from the couch for a while it might make the transition easier.

Couch to cushion in new place to dog bed in new place.

We have a coolaroo with a blanket that does well for our pup, bunus for allergies is that you can regularly wash the blankets.

If they like to curl into the corner of the couch it might be worth a bed that has a raised border for them to curl against.

Look at how they are sleeping.

My dog Pax is a cuddler. He likes to sleep up against me or during the day curled up with something to "embrace" him when he sleeps wherever he is.

I would replace with a bed with high sides that they can snuggle up into.

So, just to update, we tossed the couch, and left the cushions. Then, about a week later, I bought these beds. I had both the cushions and the beds next to each other for a couple days, but they took to the beds immediately and the cushions went unused - so out with the trash they went.

Two happy doggies in their new beds (not elevated but kind of couchlike) and since they have memory foam, they are very comfortable!

The first few days, I would find either dog in either bed, but after that they settled into one bed belonging to one dog and the other belonging to the other dog. Now, they always sleep in the "correct" bed. It's funny because we have dog beds on the first floor and they switch back and forth in those, but the upstairs beds seem to now belong to one dog only! Completely their doing - I don't care who sleeps where, of course!

Who makes those beds? They look awesome! Your dogs look so happy. I have been looking for an orthopedic dog bed for my aged old girl. We just ordered on from Sleepipet https://www.sleepipet.com and it looks a lot like these. She has been sleeping on a cushion from an old chair just like you described, she would just hang her head over the edge and it made me feel like she was getting a stiff neck. I am hoping she feels as happy as your dogs look when she gets the new bed.

I hope your dog is as happy as mine are - they are still loving their beds! We bought them at PetSmart. They are Top Paw brand (its house brand?) Different color, but here's the link: Top Paw® Orthopedic Memory Foam Couch Dog Bed | dog Orthopedic Beds | PetSmart

The beds you are looking at look great, too!
