DIY siwash harness

I have great and big plans for the future. I am interested in dog drafting or carting. I plan to rescue a large sturdy breed or breed mix puppy from the shelter and I want to be able to teach it to pull me or others around in a cart. Problem is, I know there are great people selling harnesses out there for carting but I want to get puppy-potential-cart-dog used to wearing one and understanding what he or she needs to do when it's on well before I introduce the by then fully grown dog to the cart. To do this before his joints have gotten solid and he's filled out would not be good for his soundness I'd believe.

Another reason that I'm interested in making my own is that I have two furneices now, one is a grumpy old lady and will probably be excluded from this training, but another is pretty sharp and very, very smart. If I can help her out with something that can get her energy out and at the same time desensitize her to noises then it would be great, but I'm not looking to get a professionally done siwash to provide mental stimulation to a family dog that isn't mine. I will drop money on a professional harness, leather even, if I can, on my future carting dog which has been mentioned in here like a billion times already.

In between being shelter fresh and fully grown, I will, in short, put on a handmade siwash that fits puppy, let it get used to it, and teach him that pulling is ok in that harness, no matter what's behind him, and my goal before the cart is introduced is to have my lanky teenaged dog know that when that thing goes on, bam he's in carting mode. Before the cart. But I need some tips, man, because there are good ways and bad ways to make harnesses, and dog equipment in general, but I don't know what those are. I really appreciate any advice!
