Best type of crate?

We are bringing home a puppy this summer and definitely plan on crate-training. We have used both the plastic kennels and the wire crates, but our past two dogs have HATED the plastic ones. The first dog hated confinement of any kind, though, and the second loves her wire crate.

I've read that dogs usually prefer the plastic ones and that they are better overall, but after past experiences I'm a little leery of them - plus, to be honest, I think they're kind of ugly.

For in home use I prefer wire crates. They are usually a lot cheaper than plastic crates too and are especially cost effective for large dogs. Riley is 28 in tall and only fits in the largest plastic crates which are usually $200+ but I can get a 48 in wire crate on chewy for $60. Unless you plan to be traveling with your dog and would need a crate in the car or for a plane I'd go with a wire crate.
